In this article, The Straits Times looks into the field of music therapy in Singapore, and how the clinical and evidence-based profession uses music to improve physical, emotional, cognitive and social well-being.
In 2024, LASALLE launched Singapore’s first MA programme in music therapy, opening the door for aspiring practitioners to be trained locally. Programme Leader Dr Indra Selvarajah said the two-year programme arose in response to growing interest in the profession. Lecturer Eta Lauw expressed that there are a lot of very specific cultural elements to music therapy, and the programme marks a crucial step towards making music therapy more accessible in Singapore.
