Like Magritte’s The Treachery of Images, This is not a monster denotes something out-of-the-ordinary (monstrum). While the installation, photography, video, painting and sculptural works may be inspired by everyday preoccupations, they are also rooted in the larger contexts of contemporary arts practice, complete with the connections and complexities of artistic production and sociopolitical issues.
This is not a monster also admits that what is shown (monstrare) is not everything that these ten artists have worked on. It is but a selection of the many works during their research practice of one and a half years’ journey in the MA Fine Arts programme.
