Dr S. Chandrasekaran is an accomplished academic with close to 30 years of teaching experience in the field of arts education and 40 years of practice as an artist.
Over the years, Dr S. Chandrasekaran has held several academic positions in both Singapore and international institutions. From 2017 to 2022, he served as the Head of the McNally School of Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts. Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer at the McNally School of Fine Arts, LASALLE College of the Arts.
Dr S. Chandrasekaran has represented major exhibitions such as the Havana Biennial (Cuba), the 1st Asia Pacific Triennial (Brisbane), the Asia-Pacific Performance Art Festival (Canada), the International Performance Art Festival (Poland), the 49th Venice Biennale, the 8th Festival of Contemporary Art (Slovenia), and the Singapore Biennale 2016. He contributed to two major public artworks at World Sculpture Park in Changchun, China (2001) and Little India MRT Station in Singapore (2000).
In 2003, Dr S. Chandrasekaran’s performance artwork Bioalloy and Body Performance was nominated for the APBF Signature Art Prize (Singapore). He has been invited to attend several international conferences and seminars, including the Biennale of Electronic Arts (Australia), the 3rd Asia-Pacific Arts Conference (Taipei), the XIV International Congress for Aesthetics (Slovenia), and the University of New South Wales (Sydney).
Dr S. Chandrasekaran has been invited to speak and lecture at international conferences, including an interdisciplinary conference by the University of Copenhagen in 2019 and International Art Week 2023 at Shenzhen University of Technology. He was the keynote speaker for Cross Media Arts 2016 – the 1st International Conference on Social Arts and Transdisciplinarity at the University of Évora, Portugal in 2015. He has more recently been invited as a researcher by Chinese Hong Kong University.
Dr S. Chandrasekaran is the founder and artistic director of Biological Arts Theatre (BAT), a new media experimental theatre for life sciences and the arts.
