Timothy Wee is a multidisciplinary creative and educator based in Singapore.
As a professional photographer, Timothy has created content for both local and international brands. His personal practice investigates the relationship between photography, language and sensation. Timothy's photographic and design practice come together in his love of book and zine making, using the form in harmony with images to capture cultures and explore innovative modes of storytelling.
Beyond professional pursuits, Timothy is an avid skateboarder and climber. Passionate about advocating for these communities, Timothy is always on the lookout for ways to meld his creative practice with these diverse groups. Since 2017, he has championed the local skate scene, curating exhibitions spotlighting talented artists, photographers and filmmakers. He also conducts workshops on photography and zine-making, always aiming to ignite local creativity.
As an educator, Timothy believes that arts education should encourage students to embrace their individuality and recognise what is unique about themselves and their work (Eisner, 2002). His role is simply to carefully guide students through the fog of unfamiliarity and on to the shores of understanding, encouraging curiosity and making room for failure so students can learn to pick themselves up again.
As a pedagogical researcher, he is interested in exploring how play can enrich design education, ways to instrumentalise the body for learning and problem-solving.
Timothy’s work Warpaint was acquired by the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Art in 2007.
